Accountant
About the role
Buffalo Biodiesel is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accountant to join our growing accounting team. Reporting directly to the Controller, this position will support the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, timely month-end close, and compliance with company policies and accounting standards. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys improving processes, and excels at problem-solving. This role will work closely with the Controller to strengthen the accounting function and support the continued growth of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Controller with the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process
- Prepare journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations for Controller review
- Maintain the general ledger
- Perform daily and monthly bank, credit card, and financing reconciliations
- Assist with inventory, fixed asset, and lease accounting
- Prepare supporting schedules for financial reporting, tax filings, and annual audits
- Ensure accounting records are complete, accurate, and properly documented
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and efficiencies
- Provide backup support for other accounting functions as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks Online and NetSuite (required)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles
- Experience with account reconciliations and month-end close
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines
- Experience working in a multi-entity environment (preferred)
- Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls (preferred)
