Responsibilities
- Auditing and processing payments
- Determining actions to resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
- Accurately and appropriately recording and analyzing revenues and expenses
- Developing, maintaining, and analyzing budgets
- Preparing periodic reports comparing budgeted costs to actual costs
- Establishing tables of accounts and assigning entries to proper accounts
- Posting and maintaining records of receipts and disbursements and preparing journal entries
- Maintaining financial records in compliance with accepted policies and procedures
- Maintaining and implementing accounting control procedures
- Developing and maintaining financial databases
- Examining financial statements for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with uniform accounting classifications and policies/procedures
- Analyzing financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of resources and procedures
- Analyzing business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice
- Reporting to management regarding the finances of the establishment
- Educating department administrators and principal investigators concerning compliance issues and assisting them in managing the sponsored funds in accordance with state and federal regulations for grants accounting
- Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Compiling and analyzing financial information to prepare financial statements including monthly/quarterly and annual accounts
- Preparing financial management reports
- Ensuring all financial reporting deadlines are met to include accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close
- Analyzing and advising on business operations including revenue and expenditure trends, financial commitments, and future revenues
- Assisting with the preparation of the annual financial report and various other special reports as needed
- Performing a variety of financial statement tasks showing receipts, disbursements, and balances; carrying out assigned steps in an accounting analysis
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university and relevant experience
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university and three years of relevant experience
