About the Role

The Office of Finance & Treasury is seeking an Account Specialist within the Bursar Office to administer approximately $1 billion in financial transactions annually for 9,000 student tuition/fee accounts, respond to customer service inquiries, and manage various account programs.

Responsibilities

  • Student Account Administration:
    • Validate and post financial transactions from departments, banks, service providers, and internal/external systems.
    • Research and resolve rejections and failed postings.
    • Process direct payments and create financial posting batches.
    • Administer installment plans for tuition and fees for graduate and undergraduate students.
    • Create graduate student salary advances and repayment plans.
    • Initiate billing and collection for withdrawn and re-admitted students; monitor accounts and communicate with departments.
    • Complete tuition/enrollment forms (e.g., Canadian Tax Form, UN Forms, External Scholarship Forms).
    • Participate in receivable accounting and 18 general ledger reconciliation activities; process journals and adjustments.
    • Respond to complex customer service tickets, telephone, and written inquiries; assist with online billing and payment services.
  • Rent Administration and Customer Service:
    • Respond to inquiries and resolve issues with tenants, Housing Office, and others.
    • Provide payment history and track accounts with special arrangements.
    • Manage security deposits: ensure proper receipt, deposit, and return following regulations.
    • Reconcile bank security deposit activity to receivable database.
    • Analyze account activity and determine security deposit amounts; provide written notifications.
    • Process payroll deductions, third-party billing, collection communications, and general ledger tasks.
    • Verify and post daily payment transactions; reconcile activity to database totals.
  • Medical Benefits Administration and Customer Service:
    • Administer Medical Benefits receivable: post transactions, issue collection emails, and assist accountholders.
    • Review balance reports and advise Human Resources on delinquencies.
    • Assist retirees with online account navigation and respond to payment/charge inquiries.
    • Create and monitor service tickets with third-party vendors.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma; Associate's degree or higher preferred.
  • 2+ years of customer service and account administration experience, preferably in an educational institution.
  • Experience with enterprise Student Accounts systems, preferably PeopleSoft, in a college/university setting.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and intermediate Outlook skills.

Pay

Salary Range: $80,000 to $85,000

Schedule

Standard Weekly Hours: 36.25
