Account Receivable Representative (Government)
About the role
The University of Chicago Medical Center (UCMC) is part of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD), which is a major unit of the University, managing over 60% of its annual budget. The BSD includes the Pritzker School of Medicine, academic units, and research centers. The BSD operates primarily at the University of Chicago Hospital and clinics, and the University of Chicago Practice Plan (UCPP) supports the clinical activities of nearly 850 physicians.
Responsibilities
- Perform patient and insurance-related revenue cycle activities, including working rejections, no activity follow-ups, registration functions, eligibility inquiries, and other tasks contributing to accounts receivable (AR).
- Resolve account balances by addressing claim edits, rejections, complex Provider Level adjustments (PLBs), credit balances, applying payments and adjustments to accounts.
- Communicate with payers to resolve missing remit files and work with IT to resolve EDI file load errors.
- Collaborate with revenue cycle experts to gather necessary medical records and clinical/billing information to resolve accounts and escalate issues when necessary.
- Affirm daily payment batch reconciliations and update accounts within the billing system, including demographic and insurance changes or additions, and maintain documentation for account activity.
- Assist in project tasks and develop, coordinate, and review procedures.
- Communicate with internal and external constituents to obtain necessary documentation and information to resolve accounts.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Previous experience with physician billing required.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
- Previous experience with diagnosis and CPT coding terminology required.
- Previous experience with third-party payor rules, procedures, and policies in physician billing required.
- Previous Epic EMR experience preferred.
- Experience with government payors including Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicaid, and Medicaid MCOs preferred.
- Experience with physician AR follow-up required.
- Experience with UB04 and/or CMS 1500 required.

The pay rate for this role is $22.17 - $32.47 per hour, and the position is exempt from overtime.
