Account Manager Lead-Small Group Employee Benefits
Our client, a top-5 national insurance brokerage firm specializing in property & casualty, workers' compensation, employee benefits, and financial services, is seeking an Account Manager Lead to join their growing Employee Benefits team in Spokane, WA. This role is ideal for a benefits professional who thrives in a consultative (rather than transactional) environment, managing a book of smaller group clients (under 100 lives) while leading and mentoring a team of Account Managers.
About the role
You'll manage a portfolio of 30–50 clients at a time, working closely with Producers and internal teams to deliver an exceptional client experience while developing the next generation of Account Managers on a larger, collaborative team based in Spokane.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for an assigned book of small group (under 100 lives) employee benefits clients, ensuring high retention and satisfaction.
- Lead and mentor a team of Account Managers, including training development, task delegation, and resolution of escalated service issues.
- Manage the full renewal cycle — reviewing renewals, preparing renewal/template letters, and marketing groups or presenting recommendations based on rate changes.
- Meet with clients for pre-renewal strategy sessions, proposal delivery, and coverage explanations.
- Negotiate with carriers/markets for premium concessions and select markets for solicitation.
- Review coverage contracts and client illustrations for accuracy.
- Oversee new carrier and plan implementations across the assigned book of business.
- Manage new business processing, follow-up, and reporting accuracy across the team.
- Act as liaison between the local office and corporate departments (Accounting, IT, Facilities) to support day-to-day office operations, including vendor and invoice management.
- Ensure fee collection and account reconciliation are completed within 60 days of invoicing.
- Maintain complete, accurate data within the agency management system in compliance with company standards and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 7+ years of related employee benefits/account management experience.
- Valid Insurance License (active or ability to obtain immediately).
- Must maintain Continuing Education requirements for license renewal.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills, including phone and active listening.
- Proven leadership, problem-solving, and time management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and foster teamwork among others.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Experience training and mentoring team members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work hybrid schedule: minimum 2 days/week in the Spokane, WA office, with Wednesday required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of (or active progress toward) Career Path requirements as defined by supervisor/company guidelines.
- Prior experience specifically in small group (under 100 lives) employee benefits account management.
- Experience in a consultative client-facing benefits role rather than a purely transactional one.

Pay
$90,000 - $110,000 Annually

Hybrid: minimum 2 days/week in the Spokane, WA office, with Wednesday required.
