Account Manager, Construction Sales

About the Role

This hybrid position focuses on managing waste and recycling services for existing construction accounts while driving temporary revenue growth by meeting or exceeding monthly sales goals. The role requires a strong emphasis on new business activities (70% or more), including growing customer relationships, securing referrals, and cold-calling new or planned construction projects. The majority of the workweek is spent conducting customer site visits, with the remainder working from home.

Responsibilities

  • Manage business-to-business sales relationships and develop detailed proposals encompassing multiple services.
  • Research aspects of the waste and environmental services industry to stay informed.
  • Attend conferences and symposiums for networking and industry knowledge.
  • Build and maintain trusting customer relationships through high-impact communication.
  • Prospect and close sales to achieve budgeted goals using sound selling strategies.
  • Develop and implement marketing plans, maintaining key prospect information in the database.
  • Match WM services with customer needs by demonstrating knowledge of pricing, competition, and service strategies.
  • Proactively identify and refer other WM business opportunities internally.
  • Utilize WM sales productivity tools (e.g., prospect/customer database, proposal program, pricing tools).
  • Propose compliant customer solutions adhering to local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Devise sales approaches, marshal resources, negotiate sales, and analyze opportunities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) or, in lieu of a degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) with 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience in direct business-to-business sales and phone-based prospecting (in addition to education requirement).
  • Preferred: Prior experience within the construction industry.
