About the Role
The Account Manager will serve as a primary point of contact between clients and the company's internal bookkeeping and back-office teams. This role is responsible for managing client relationships, coordinating recurring financial and administrative deliverables, maintaining clear communication, and ensuring clients consistently receive accurate and timely support. The ideal candidate combines strong client relationship management skills with an understanding of bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting workflows. They should be comfortable discussing financial information with business owners while translating technical or accounting-related matters into clear, straightforward language. Because this position will support a growing back-office division, the successful candidate should also be comfortable helping establish processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and taking ownership beyond a traditional account servicing role.
Responsibilities
- Client Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned client accounts.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with business owners and key client stakeholders.
- Develop a clear understanding of each client's business, priorities, financial processes, and reporting needs.
- Maintain proactive communication rather than waiting for clients to raise questions or concerns.
- Ensure clients understand upcoming deliverables, deadlines, and required action items.
- Provide a consistently professional and responsive client experience.
- Build trust by maintaining strong follow-through and accountability.
- Account Management & Coordination
- Manage a portfolio of client accounts and oversee day-to-day account activity.
- Coordinate between clients and internal bookkeeping, accounting, and back-office teams.
- Track outstanding requests, documents, approvals, and deliverables.
- Ensure internal teams have the information necessary to complete client work accurately and on time.
- Follow up with clients regarding missing documentation or outstanding action items.
- Maintain organized records of client communications, requests, and account status.
- Escalate complex accounting or operational matters to the appropriate internal team member.
- Monthly Close & Reporting Support
- Help coordinate the monthly bookkeeping and reporting cycle for assigned accounts.
- Maintain visibility into monthly close progress and outstanding client requirements.
- Help ensure client books and reporting are completed according to established timelines.
- Coordinate the delivery of monthly financial reports.
- Assist clients with understanding their reports and identifying questions requiring additional accounting expertise.
- Ensure reporting is presented professionally and consistently.
- Help maintain the accuracy and organization expected for reporting that may be reviewed by management teams, CPAs, lenders, or prospective buyers.
- Financial Communication
- Communicate financial and bookkeeping information in clear, easy-to-understand language.
- Help business owners understand what their financial reports are showing.
- Answer routine client questions regarding bookkeeping processes, reporting timelines, and account activity.
- Coordinate with accounting professionals when questions require deeper technical expertise.
- Help clients connect financial reporting with practical business decisions.
- Maintain professionalism when discussing sensitive financial information.
- Back-Office Division Support
- Support the development and growth of a new back-office services division.
- Help establish repeatable account management processes and client workflows.
- Identify recurring client issues and recommend improvements.
- Help document processes, communication standards, and account management best practices.
- Identify opportunities to make client onboarding and ongoing servicing more efficient.
- Collaborate with leadership as the division's service offering and client base expand.
- Client Onboarding
- Support the onboarding of new client accounts.
- Gather required financial, operational, and business information.
- Coordinate system access, documentation, and initial client requirements.
- Establish clear expectations regarding communication, reporting, and monthly workflows.
- Ensure a smooth transition from sales into ongoing service delivery.
- Maintain organized onboarding documentation and follow-up.
- Account Retention & Growth
- Monitor client satisfaction and identify potential concerns before they become larger issues.
- Proactively address communication gaps, missed expectations, or service challenges.
- Identify additional services that could provide value to existing clients.
- Support retention by consistently demonstrating responsiveness and ownership.
- Surface expansion opportunities to leadership when appropriate.
- Help develop client relationships that support long-term recurring revenue.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in Account Management, Client Success, Customer Success, bookkeeping/accounting services, or a related client-facing role.
- Experience managing ongoing client relationships.
- Strong understanding of basic bookkeeping, accounting, or financial reporting concepts.
- Ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Strong client-facing presence and relationship-building ability.
- Exceptional organization and follow-through.
- Ability to manage multiple client accounts and competing priorities simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets, financial reports, and cloud-based business platforms.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with internal teams.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working for an outsourced bookkeeping, accounting, or financial services company.
- Experience managing relationships with small or mid-sized business owners.
- Familiarity with monthly bookkeeping close processes.
- Experience reviewing or discussing financial statements with clients.
- Understanding of Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, and Cash Flow reporting.
- Experience supporting a new business division or developing account management processes.
- Experience with client onboarding and retention.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online or similar platforms.
- Experience working with CPAs, lenders, financial professionals, or business advisors.

Pay
$2,500-$3,500/month (varies based on skill set and experience level)
