About the Role

The Premier Accounts team manages all group business with 3,000 or more employees. With nearly 4.5 million members, our strategy is to understand and meet the needs of commercial/national and public sector employers, labor trusts, and their consultants by providing easy, understandable interactions and affordable choices. We aim to establish Blue Shield as the preferred choice in health plans through the efficient use of premium dollars.

The Account Executive - Premier, Principal will report to the Area Vice President, Southern California. This role serves as a strategic advisor, providing consultative client management by developing client relationships, understanding client business needs, planning service delivery, and driving the use of proactive service and support.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the ‘go-to AM’ for product knowledge, sharing expertise with peers, and quantifying/qualifying the advantages of BSCA products over competitors.
  • Maintains a deep understanding of the marketplace, including healthcare provider networks and customer data, to strengthen the BSCA value proposition.
  • Facilitates all meeting types, including finalist meetings with executive-level audiences, anticipating client questions and providing in-depth responses.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with key executive-level decision-makers, understanding their priorities and establishing a trusted advisor relationship.
  • Develops and maintains long-term growth strategies based on deep client and industry knowledge, leveraging renewal factors to expand client business.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities and participates in process improvement workgroups.
  • Fully leverages available resources to complete back-office tasks, solve problems, and recommends tool improvements.
  • Influences functional groups to act and own back-office tasks, escalating issues to appropriate managers to drive accountability.
  • Confidently asks for more business, understanding factors like stickiness, switching costs, and client value drivers, and strategically decides when to concede or hold firm.
  • Implements strategic goals and establishes operational plans with direct short- to mid-term impact on results.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree or High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of additional relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Requires 7 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Requires a current active Accident & Health Agent or Sickness and Life license with the California Department of Insurance.
  • Requires a valid California driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Deep and proven experience with large, national, multi-site, and multi-state accounts, including ASO, PPO, HMO, HDHP, and alternate funding arrangements.
  • Strong familiarity with competition, market environments, healthcare economics, medical practices, and provider/alternative delivery systems.
  • Keen understanding of local market dynamics and regional/national trends, including managed care and contract negotiations.
  • Strong business instincts, planning, and marketing skills, balanced with high ethical standards and personal integrity.
  • Proven ability to adapt client needs and innovate in creating strategic solutions and partnerships.

Pay Range

The pay range for this role in California is $124,960.00 to $199,980.00, and in the Bay Area, it is $140,864.00 to $225,432.00. Salaries are based on candidate experience, location, and current employee salaries for similar roles.
