Account Executive, East (Remote, US)
About the Role
As an Account Executive, you will be part of a regional sales team and the overall face of Newsela in the small-medium business market. You’ll build relationships with key decision makers at the school district level and sell Newsela’s suite of products to bring engaging reading content to districts. This is a remote position primarily covering Eastern U.S. (and select Central) regions. Candidates residing in the Eastern Time Zone are highly preferred; however, we welcome applicants located anywhere in the U.S. who have prior East Coast K-12 EdTech SaaS sales experience and are fully available to work Eastern and Central Time school district hours.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of developing territory business plans, evaluating funding landscapes, and tailoring sales strategies to align with district initiatives.
- Manage the entire lifecycle of a sale, from pipeline management and forecasting to designing lead generation campaigns.
- Become well-versed in your territory’s funding, state initiatives, demographics, and K-12 education landscape to inform sales strategy.
- Achieve revenue targets while working with a cross-functional team to support Newsela’s growth.
- Meet in-person with school and district leaders to present solutions, negotiate terms, and secure agreements.
- Drive the expansion and adoption of Newsela products in K-12 classrooms nationwide.
- Exercise significant autonomy in representing the company, making strategic recommendations, and managing priorities independently.
- Use discretion and independent judgment to evaluate customer needs, structure tailored solutions, and negotiate within established guidelines.
- Travel approximately 15% (likely a few times per quarter) to meet with customers and prospects.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-cycle (prospecting through closing) K-12 EdTech SaaS sales experience specifically within East Coast states, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding quotas.
- Prior experience as an ELA or Social Studies teacher/instructional coach (or a strong grasp of K-12 pedagogy) preferred.
- Demonstrated experience as a strategic territory manager with executive presence to lead consultative district conversations and navigate multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with high-volume district sales and building a book of business from scratch.
- Self-starter with the ability to drive sales quickly to a close and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Highly organized, adaptable, and able to hit the ground running while maintaining high service standards and meeting sales goals.
- Excited by opportunities to connect face-to-face with customers and prospects.
- Experience using AI tools to drive efficiency and productivity.
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (This role is exempt and not eligible for overtime.)
