Account Executive, BOCES (Remote, NY)
About the Role
This Account Executive will be responsible for specifically supporting the BOCES of New York. As an Account Executive, you will be part of a regional sales team and the overall face of Newsela in the small-medium business market. This role is responsible for building relationships with key decision-makers at the school district level and selling Newsela’s suite of products to bring engaging reading content to districts.
Responsibilities
- Own your territory, manage the entire lifecycle of a sale, and build new business relationships that bring Newsela’s solutions to classrooms.
- Build relationships with key decision-makers at the district level and sell Newsela’s suite of products to bring engaging learning content to school districts within the region.
- Employ solution-based selling techniques and solution mapping, along with strong negotiation and closing skills, to ensure school board preparation and approval.
- Create and maintain an aggressive pipeline and build strategic account plans for key accounts, moving each through the sales cycle.
- Create and manage pipeline, forecasting, and design lead generation campaigns, managing sales through the entire lifecycle and collaborating closely with other departments.
- Meet in-person with school and district leaders to present solutions, negotiate terms, and secure agreements.
- Thrive in a role that requires significant autonomy, representing the company in the market, making recommendations that impact strategy and results, and managing priorities independently.
Requirements
- 2+ years of full-cycle (prospecting through closing) sales experience with demonstrated success selling K-12 EdTech supplemental curriculum, assessment, analytics, or MTSS products to school districts specifically in New York State.
- Located in NY, NJ, or CT (with primary preference for New York-based candidates).
- Experience partnering with school districts through BOCES regional offices to coordinate services and solutions.
- Experience building a book of business with extensive experience in networking, prospecting, and pipeline development.
- Deep understanding of the territory’s funding, state initiatives, demographics, and K-12 education landscape to inform the overall sales strategy.
- Skilled in navigating complex education ecosystems and driving strategic partnerships across regional networks.
- Proficient in MEDDPICC sales methodology.
- Proven success forecasting business within the EdTech industry.
- Willing to travel as needed (estimated at around 15%, likely a few times per quarter).
- Experience using AI tools to drive greater efficiency and productivity.
- Legally authorized to work in the US.
Qualifications
This role is classified as an exempt salaried role and is not eligible for overtime. All offers of employment are contingent upon the successful completion of a background check as part of our pre-employment process.

Pay
- Base Salary: $70,000 - $75,000, depending on prior experience.
- On-Target Commission (OTC): $70,000 - $75,000.
- On-Target Earnings (OTE): $140,000 - $150,000.
Final compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s individual skills, qualifications, and experience. Total compensation also includes incentive stock options and benefits. This role is eligible for variable compensation.
