Account Executive
As an Account Executive at San Jose Mercury News, you will develop effective advertising programs that meet advertisers’ marketing objectives through a combination of print and digital advertising. You will cultivate client relationships with an emphasis on new business while establishing and achieving department sales goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead heavy prospecting and sales plan development for new and existing clients, with a specific focus on digital opportunities
- Evaluate sales opportunities to design custom digital programs and craft proposals that clearly demonstrate value
- Achieve sales goals and objectives, including key performance indicators like revenue, active accounts, contract performance, and market share
- Manage sales administration tasks, such as aging and flash reports, while ensuring the accurate processing of all ad orders
- Demonstrate high proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Apply a deep understanding of internet and mobile advertising to solve client challenges
- Execute consultative selling strategies with a consistent ability to close a high volume of sales
Requirements
- Consultative selling expertise and a consistent ability to close a high volume of sales
- Strong written and verbal communication skills alongside a commitment to providing exceptional customer service
- Detail-oriented approach and the ability to manage your time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study (preferred)
- A proven track record of sales success and a drive to meet revenue targets (required)
- Prior experience in media sales is a plus
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation
- Must be available for shift work and occasional coverage outside of normal business hours
- Must be willing to submit and pass a full pre-employment background check and MVR

Pay
The hourly range is $29.86 - $33.33 plus cell phone stipend, mileage reimbursement, and commission. On-target earning potential is $85,000-$90,000. Pay is based on several factors including geographic location, education, work experience, time in role, and certifications.
