Account Executive
About the role
Fresh off a $15M Series A led by Accel (total funding now $20M+), Agave is profitable, growing fast, and scaling the team. We're hiring an Account Executive to work directly with our CEO/co-founder to grow Agave from $Xm ARR to $XXm ARR+.
You’ll own the day-to-day execution of our full sales cycle while collaborating on all aspects of revenue—from defining ICPs and GTM strategy to pricing details and contract terms. You’ll be the expert on our customers’ needs, with input sought by our CTO when planning sprints and new features.
You’ll step into a proven sales motion with an existing pipeline, refined collateral, meeting templates, a tidy CRM, and SMEs to support demos. You’ll convert strong inbound and referral leads while building our outbound motion as we expand our product and enter new construction segments.
This role is ideal for a hungry, scrappy, and energetic AE who thrives in early-stage environments. Unlike typical AEs who execute existing playbooks, you’ll help write a better one. Your impact will extend far beyond the ARR you close, with potential to grow into a Sales leadership position reporting directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end sales process for construction general/trade contractors, helping them automate work through software integration.
- Lead gen + prospecting: Research potential customers, generate leads, and build a consistent outbound pipeline. Attend industry events and develop connections to drive future sales.
- Outreach + engagement: Contact leads via email, cold calls, job-site visits, conferences, and more. Manage inbound and referral leads shared by external partners.
- Qualification + closing: Run discovery calls, demos (with technical SMEs), and follow-ups to qualify and close new customers. Build proposals and ROI cases to convince prospects to buy Agave. Negotiate contract terms when needed.
- Process improvement: Refine internal sales processes (slides, call scripts, meeting templates, contract terms, CRM workflows, metrics, dashboards). Run weekly “Sales Review” meetings company-wide to review deals and answer questions.
- Cross-team collaboration: Work with Customer Success, Engineering, and Product to delight customers. Collaborate with the co-founding team on all sales and revenue-related initiatives.
Requirements
Hard requirements:
- 2+ years of sales experience: Quota-carrying role at a B2B SaaS company, with experience closing 5-6 figure contracts.
- Prior sales success: Strong record evidenced by quota attainment, customer retention, and manager feedback.
Soft requirements:
- Hands-on: You thrive as an individual contributor and love the messy work of finding and closing prospects. Not an armchair expert.
- Owner mindset: Self-directed, able to work with minimal supervision, and trusted to disqualify poor-fit customers.
- Clear + persuasive communication: Skilled at writing crisp follow-up emails and articulating compelling counterpoints to objections.
- Strong EQ: Knows when to listen and when to sell; attuned to social signals, especially on Zoom.
- Gritty and results-driven: Consistently delivers, does whatever it takes to meet goals, and isn’t easily discouraged.
- Product curiosity: Eager to understand how our product works in more detail than typical for a salesperson.
Nice to have:
- Experience selling software into the construction industry.
- Startup experience, ideally at Series B/C or earlier.
- Familiarity with accounting concepts and nuances.
Why join us?
- Early-stage, yet de-risked: High upside of an early-stage startup with lower risk—thousands of contractors use us, we’re profitable and cash-flow positive, and growing fast. You get the benefits of early-stage impact without the typical risks (unproven product, lack of market validation, co-founder disputes, etc.).
- Young, hungry, and technical team: Fully in-person team in SF, tenacious and committed. Cofounders have 10+ years of experience together, including at a startup acquired by Amazon. You’ll learn a ton while having outsized ownership.
- Huge opportunity without direct competition: Construction is the world’s third-largest industry, yet overlooked by most startups. We have a multi-year head start, backed by world-class investors (Accel, YC) and construction insiders (Procore, Autodesk, PlanGrid founders).
- Front-row seat to company-building: You’ll see the good and bad of scaling a startup from the ground up.
Compensation
Compensation consists of base + commission (OTE) with meaningful equity. We want AEs motivated by upside and eager to bet on themselves and the company. Compensation range: $140K - $200K.
Benefits
- Healthcare: We cover 90% of healthcare costs with several plan options.
- 401k: 100% match on contributions, up to 4% of annual salary.
- Performance Bonuses: Annual bonuses tied to company growth goals, scaled as a % of base salary.
- Relocation: Sizable bonus for those moving to the Bay Area, plus an additional bonus for anyone (even locally) who moves within a 15-minute walk of our office.
- Breakfast & Dinner: Stipends for DoorDash, plus a kitchen stocked with coffee, snacks, drinks, and more.
- Gym: On-site gym with Peloton, squat rack, Tempo, yoga setup, and more.
- Visa: Sponsorship for H1B, TN, and other visas for qualified candidates.
- Commuter benefits: Pre-tax contributions for commuting costs, plus full coverage of a Muni pass for public transit users.
- Remote possible: Open to remote candidates in the US. While we prefer in-person, we’ll provide company-sponsored trips to SF HQ at least every other month for remote employees.
