About the role

Under general supervision, to perform complex and responsible work in the keeping of financial or statistical records; and to do related work as required.

A major characteristic of this position is a recognized functional responsibility for a relatively complex but homogeneous set of financial records of District-wide significance. Procedures are generally established and regulated by law and administrative requirements, and problems encountered demand good judgment and adaptability. The Account Clerk II is expected to solve independently a variety of problems relating to the records maintained or the procedures followed. Although supervision is generally available, it is often exercised only through review of completed work, and incumbents are expected to identify for themselves those problems which require attention from supervisory personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex and responsible work in the keeping of financial or statistical records.
  • Maintain a relatively complex but homogeneous set of financial records of District-wide significance.
  • Solve independently a variety of problems relating to the records maintained or procedures followed.
  • Prepare accurate financial summaries and reports.
  • Operate modern office equipment such as personal computers, calculators, and related software.

Requirements

  • Two years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance of financial or statistical records.
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, including or supplemented by courses in typing and bookkeeping or accounting.
  • Upon conditional offer of employment: DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check, TB Test within the last 60 days, completion of district Mandated Reporter training, Sexual Harassment training, and an in-person typing test with a minimum of 30 wpm.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Personal computers and related software, including spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Methods and practices of financial record keeping.
  • Bookkeeping methods and terminology.
  • Modern office equipment, methods, and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Perform responsible clerical work without continuous supervision.
  • Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Work cooperatively with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Type at a speed of 30 words per minute from clear copy containing a large percentage of numerical or tabular data.

Schedule

  • 10.5 work months per year.
  • 7 hours per day, 5 days a week.
  • Clock hours: 8 am to 3:30 pm (30-minute unpaid lunch), subject to change.

Pay

$23.56 to $28.65 per hour
