Job Summary
Perform advanced, specialized financial support for clients on your case load and complex clerical work; in addition to providing coordination and consultation to case managers, Social Security Administration and support staff. This work requires independent judgment, initiative and bookkeeping/budgeting knowledge while completing work accurately and on a timely basis.
Essential Duties
- Provide ongoing budget counseling to adults, within the guidelines set forth by the Social Security Administration, for the chronically mentally ill (CMI), alcohol and other drug addiction (AODA), and Long-Term Care clients
- Problem solve daily with clients and their advocates regarding budget issues and other concerns
- Prepare, distribute, order and/or verify client funds and monthly expenditures per the budget established for the client
- Prepare financial information for Social Security, clients and other agencies to update documents/systems in order to maintain client’s eligibility for services and benefits
- Verify client benefits they are eligible for are received; communicate with appropriate agency if there is a need to apply for additional benefits
- Analyze and interpret information of a complex nature pertaining to the Health and Human Services Department
- Communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external customers in person, via phone, email and in writing
- Gather/organize client financial information to assist with income tax and Wisconsin Homestead Credit preparation for the client
- Maintain spreadsheets as needed for the department or for client information
- Aid and backup other team members and/or departments as required
- Adhere to the confidentiality policy of the department in addition to Federal and State privacy laws
- Annually update/maintain job process and duties

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Lifting 30 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 20 pounds

- Communicating orally in a clear manner
- Distinguishing sounds at various frequencies and volumes
- Distinguishing people or objects at varied distance under a variety of light conditions
OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of various possible benefits for clients
- Knowledge of general office practices and skill in the application of those practices
- Knowledge of and ability to utilize a computer, online payment applications and the required software
- Knowledge of accounting/budgeting
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to perform full data entry functions at a rate of 80 net keystrokes per minute
- Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
- Ability to make basic arithmetic calculations
- Ability to learn and apply specialized knowledge and skills of the department
- Ability to assume responsibility and work independently
- Ability to maintain emotional stability in stress situations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public
- Ability to maintain records and reports accurately
- Ability to maintain the confidential nature of client and business information
- Ability to work the required hours of the position
