Accommodation Specialist

About the Role

Under general supervision, the Accommodation Specialist analyzes and interprets students' disability-related documentation, including psycho-educational documentation, to determine accommodations, disability-related support, and learning strategy support through an interactive intake process with students, including those who are Learning Disabled. The role involves assisting students with educational problems related to their disabling condition and learning experience at CSUN, including screening for learning disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret disability-related documentation, including psycho-educational reports, to determine appropriate accommodations and support.
• Assist students with educational challenges related to their disabling condition, including screening for learning disabilities.
• Provide student development and engagement services through individual counseling, group facilitation, career development activities, and community-building programs.
• Develop and deliver training for faculty and staff on disability issues, accommodations, and inclusive practices.
• Lead student groups and workshops that promote self-advocacy, connection, engagement, and a sense of belonging within the campus community.
• Serve as an information resource for prospective students, staff, and faculty on disability issues, college access, and accommodations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field. Upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution is preferred.
• Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience at the postsecondary education level, with experience in providing student development counseling preferred.
• A Master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may substitute for one year of experience.
• Additional specialized and relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Skills

• Knowledge of disability-related documentation and accommodation practices, including interpreting psycho-educational reports and assessing disability-related needs.
• Skill in student counseling, development, and engagement, with the ability to provide individualized guidance, facilitate groups, and support career exploration.
• Ability to develop and deliver effective training, workshops, and educational programming for students, faculty, and staff.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with diverse student populations and campus partners, particularly students with disabilities.
• Experience in assisting students with résumé development, interviewing, job-search strategies, professional behavior, and employment preparation.

Pay

The anticipated hiring rate is $5,540 per month. The salary range for this classification is $5,540 – $7,893 per month.

Schedule

Full-time; 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. May include evenings and weekends. This is a regular on-campus position in Northridge with a one-year probationary period.
