Position Overview
Western Connecticut State University is seeking a part-time 11.75 hours per week Learning Specialist University Assistant in the Office of AccessAbility Services. The position is open to applicants who meet the requirements and are interested in enhancing the university's diverse community.
Responsibilities
- Provides front office coverage, including answering phones, greeting students and visitors, and directing inquiries appropriately.
- Maintains accurate and timely case notes documenting student interactions in the office’s online database.
- Assists in the hiring, supervision and training of student employees.
- Serves as an exam proctor in our accommodated exam rooms.
- Develops and presents academic workshops to promote student academic skills.
- Supports Beyond All Odds, a student organization for students with and without disabilities that promotes disability inclusion on campus.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in the area of Education, Educational Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, Special Education, or closely related field.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Experience with students in a higher education setting highly desirable.
- Knowledge of academic learning strategies such as time management, organization, and study preparation.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills.
- Experience providing direct services to individuals with disabilities in a postsecondary disability services office is preferred.
