About the role

The Access Representative supports the Medical Centers by delivering high-quality care to patients based on assessed needs, established standards, and policy and procedures. This role involves hospital registration in the Emergency Department (ED) and Trauma Bay, including:

  • Accurately verifying patient identity and gathering demographic and contact information
  • Setting up accident claims and obtaining signatures on hospital documents, including consent forms and financial responsibility
  • Collecting copays and scanning patient documents
  • Completing registration work queues and verifying insurance details
  • Completing required MSP and Advance Directives questionnaires for all appropriate patients
  • Prioritizing insurance coverages as primary, secondary, and tertiary while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and efficient patient flow

The quality of registration data collected significantly impacts the organization's revenue and reimbursement timelines.

Location: West Chester, OH, United States

Responsibilities

  • Create Epic accounts from scheduling appointments
  • Obtain demographic and insurance information as indicated in the Pre-Registration Minimum Data Set, Documentation Standards, and Situation Response Guidelines to create, update, and secure accounts
  • Screen and complete all required documentation, prioritizing insurance coverages as primary, secondary, and tertiary
  • Complete required MSP questionnaires for all appropriate patients
  • Answer questions regarding patient appointments or transfers to the appropriate department, service area, or physician office
  • Properly code Daily Worklist according to Worklist Coding Standards
  • Organize and prioritize Daily Worklist tasks effectively
  • Ensure Worklist coding is consistent with documentation in LastWord
  • Secure all applicable accounts in a timely manner as defined by Due Diligence Standard while maintaining productivity and quality standards
  • Maintain facility-established productivity standards and Patient Accounts Quality Guidelines
  • Report improvements, problems, and changes related to insurance verification to Department Management
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the Access Unit Department

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Analytical skills and ability to problem-solve
  • Computer literacy
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle adversarial customers
  • Ability to interact independently to resolve customer service issues
  • 1-3 years of experience in registration, billing, customer service, or a managed care organization preferred
