Academic Year Math Teachers (Grad Students welcome!)
Position Summary
Steppingstone is hiring ELA teachers in both 5th and 6th grades for our rigorous out-of-school-time academic program. Math teachers will strengthen student knowledge of key math skills and introduce new visual and conceptual strategies to strengthen their understanding of math content. Fifth grade topics covered include operations with fractions, operations with decimals, place value, coordinate planes. Sixth grade topics include unit rates and percentages, expressions and equations. ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) preparation course: Math teachers will strengthen student knowledge of key math skills and application of test taking strategies for the ISEE. Fifth grade topics covered include operations with fractions, operations with decimals, place value and interpreting/solving multi-step equations. Sixth grade topics include arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis. ISEE classes will use the Test Innovators website as the basis for the content of the course. Teachers will receive training for the program upon hire.
Responsibilities
- Strengthen student knowledge of key math skills and introduce new visual and conceptual strategies to strengthen their understanding of math content.
- Teach ISEE preparation courses focusing on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis.
- Use Test Innovators website as the basis for the content of the ISEE preparation course.
- Receive training for the ISEE preparation course upon hire.
- Teach one day per week remotely on Wednesdays and one day per week in-person on Saturdays.
Requirements
- Strong background in mathematics education.
- Experience teaching math at the 5th and 6th grade levels.
- Ability to teach using visual and conceptual strategies.
- Knowledge of ISEE preparation materials and strategies.
- Commitment to teaching one day per week remotely on Wednesdays and one day per week in-person on Saturdays.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education or related field.
- At least two years of teaching experience at the middle school level.
- Experience with ISEE preparation and test-taking strategies.
