Academic Year English Tutor

About the role

Provide English tutoring to Upward Bound high school students during the academic year. Tutoring occurs on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and by appointment throughout the week as requested by students. Occasional grade-level specific college preparatory English activities and lessons may be implemented.

Schedule

• Saturdays: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
• Additional appointments scheduled as needed during the week
• Academic year appointment (approximately 9 months)
• 3–5 hours per week

Pay

Hourly pay rate: $12.00

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in or a graduate of a post-secondary institution with a major in English or a related discipline, or evidence of equivalent knowledge and/or experience
• Experience in tutoring, mentoring, and/or community service with high school-level students

Preferred Qualifications

• Graduate of a TRIO program or experience overcoming challenges similar to those faced by the target population

A background check is required.
