About the role
City Year, an AmeriCorps program, supports students in achieving academic success, improving attendance, and developing positive behaviors at school.
Role and responsibilities
- Coaching and mentoring elementary, middle and/or high school students
- Helping students earn academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors
- Planning and monitoring individual student progress
- Working with teachers on whole class instruction, breakout spaces, and other in-class student assistance
- Supporting academic coaching and interpersonal development for students
- Creating and implementing a behavior management system for students
- Developing and implementing literacy and/or math skills based on student levels
- Encouraging assignment completion and answering student questions
- Collaborating with teachers and team members to collect, record, analyze, and monitor individual student progress
- Participating in facilitated reviews of student data collected and entered into City Year's student data system
- Creating an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom space in collaboration with the teacher
- Serving as a liaison between students, families, and school staff
- Supporting and conducting extended day and virtual programming for students
- Creating, supporting, and/or leading events or programs that recognize and appreciate student growth and/or achievement

Requirements
- Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident
- Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025
- Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree
- Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program
- Agree to and complete a background check
- Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (specific start date varies by location)
