Academic Tutor & Mentor (Entry Level, Paid, Full-time)

About the role

City Year, an AmeriCorps program, helps students succeed by providing support to students, classrooms, and the whole school. City Year AmeriCorps members focus on coaching and mentoring students, improving their academic performance, attendance, and behavior.

Role and Responsibilities

• Coach and mentor elementary, middle, and/or high school students individually and in small groups.
• Develop literacy and/or math skills through various learning activities tailored to each student's level.
• Create and implement a behavior management system for students.
• Collaborate with teachers and school staff to collect, record, analyze, and monitor individual student progress.
• Support whole school initiatives to increase student engagement and family involvement.
• Conduct extended day and virtual programming for students, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
• Create and lead events or programs that recognize and celebrate student growth and achievement.

Agreement and Eligibility Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
• Be 17-25 by July 1, 2025.
• Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or college degree.
• Serve no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
• Agree to and complete a background check.
• Be able to begin City Year by July/August 2025 (specific start date varies by location).
