About the role

City Year, an AmeriCorps program, helps students succeed by providing support to students, classrooms, and the whole school. City Year AmeriCorps members focus on coaching and mentoring students, improving their academic performance, attendance, and behavior.

Role and responsibilities

  • Coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students individually and in small groups.
  • Developing literacy and/or math skills through various learning activities tailored to each student's level.
  • Implementing and managing a behavior management system for students.
  • Collaborating with teachers and school staff to collect, record, analyze, and monitor student progress.
  • Creating an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom environment in partnership with teachers.
  • Supporting whole-school initiatives to increase student engagement and family involvement.
  • Conducting extended day and virtual programming for students, including academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development.
  • Organizing and leading events or programs that recognize and celebrate student growth and achievements.

Requirements

  • Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  • Be between 17-25 years old by July 1, 2025.
  • Have a GED or high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree.
  • Have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program.
  • Agree to and complete a background check.
  • Be able to start City Year by July/August 2025.
