Academic Tutor

About the role

Prep Academy Tutors of Raleigh-Durham seeks dedicated tutors to support students in grades K–12 across various subject areas. This position is ideal for certified teachers, subject matter experts, graduate students, or experienced educators passionate about helping students achieve academic growth.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one academic tutoring in core subjects (Math, English Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, and/or Foreign Languages)
• Support students with homework, study skills, executive functioning, and test preparation
• Develop individualized learning plans based on student needs and assessment results
• Track student progress and provide regular updates to families
• Foster a positive, encouraging, and professional learning environment
• Travel to students’ homes throughout the Raleigh-Durham area

Requirements

• Masters degree or teaching certification
• Strong subject-matter expertise in at least one core academic area
• Prior teaching or tutoring experience (classroom, private tutoring, or small-group instruction)
• Able to differentiate instruction for diverse learners
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Reliable transportation

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or teaching certification
• Qualified applicants must have a bachelor’s degree and meet at least one of the following criteria:
• You hold a valid North Carolina teaching certificate or the equivalent thereof
• You are a current student teacher pursuing a teaching certificate
• You have 2 or more years of experience as a classroom teacher in a private, public, or charter school
• You have experience as a lecturer/course instructor at an accredited U.S. university or college
• You are a Master’s/PhD student with experience as a teaching assistant at an accredited U.S. university or college
