Amherst College seeks an Academic Support Coordinator for a temporary, 40-hour-per-week casual position with an initial term of 6 to 8 weeks and the possibility of extension. The salary range is $28.00–$30.00 per hour, based on education, training, experience, and other nondiscriminatory factors.
About the role
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students and Class Dean, the Academic Support Coordinator provides administrative support to five Class Deans and the Office of Student Care, assisting with academic, personal, and social matters related to student life.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a student affairs information resource, engaging with a diverse student body to determine needs and direct them to appropriate offices.
- Act as a liaison between students, faculty, parents, deans, and campus offices (Registrar, Financial Aid, Admissions, Institutional Research, Residential Life).
- Collaborate with the Registrar’s office and faculty to manage missing and final grade submissions.
- Maintain Class Deans’ calendars, schedule meetings and events, and prepare agendas.
- Manage education records in Maxient and Perceptive Content.
- Process academic extension documents and communicate with students, faculty, and the Registrar’s Office.
- Greet visitors, respond to correspondence, and resolve sensitive issues or complaints.
- Research and summarize data for assigned or special projects.
- Prepare, review, and process paperwork and electronic requests; compile, compose, and edit documents (e.g., semester withdrawals, course withdrawals, readmission materials).
- Assist with the Committee on Academic Standing (CAS): compile and track data, communicate with faculty for mid-semester student information, facilitate meetings, generate and document CAS letters.
- Support office events and initiatives, including preparing announcements, invitations, certificates, managing catering and maintenance requests, and follow-up correspondence.
- Archive student files and provide backup coverage for the front desk/reception area.
Requirements
- Associate’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
- Three years of related experience.
- Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
- Sensitivity to confidentiality issues.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently and collaboratively.
- Accuracy and keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software (e.g., Maxient, Image Now, Workday).
- Experience working collaboratively with a diverse community.
- Successful completion of required reference and/or background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
Pay
$28.00–$30.00 per hour.
