About the role
The Academic Support Administrator – Writing and Liberal Arts provides leadership for writing, liberal arts, and academic communication support within the Wolak Learning Center. You will recruit, train, supervise, and develop Peer Educators while coordinating high-quality tutoring services, workshops, class-embedded support, review sessions, and other academic skill-building initiatives for campus undergraduate and graduate students.
Responsibilities
- Peer Educator Hiring, Guidance, and Development
- Hire, train, and oversee Peer Educators who support writing, and liberal arts, across assigned disciplines and courses.
- Provide onboarding, providing ongoing professional development, monitoring performance, and offering coaching to strengthen the quality of peer academic support.
- Prepare Peer Educators to support writing, reading, research, AI literacy, and writing integrity through inclusive, strengths-based tutoring practices.
- Collaborate with Wolak Learning Center staff to provide leadership regarding all aspects of recognition, promotion, and evaluation of Peer Educators in partnership with the Office Manager.
- Academic Support Program Coordination
- Manage all tutoring services for campus undergraduate and graduate students, including one-to-one support, workshops, class-embedded tutoring assignments, and review sessions.
- Develop and coordinate a comprehensive tutoring schedule that meets the needs of student preferences and budget parameters.
- Provide individualized academic support, including tutoring and coaching, to students in areas that align with background/expertise.
- Facilitate daily program operations and respond to the needs of commuters, residential students, and a range of academic performance levels through flexible, creative, and student-centered resolutions.
- Design and oversee academic skill-building initiatives, including writing intensives, research workshops, reading-for-college sessions, and AI literacy and writing integrity workshops.
- Support writing-intensive liberal arts disciplines such as humanities, social sciences, education, justice studies, psychology, history, sociology, and political science.
- Advance college-level writing development by supporting idea generation, thesis development, organization, revision, argumentation, audience awareness, and other higher-order writing skills beyond proofreading and grammar.
- Strengthen students' critical reading, analysis, and research-based writing through source evaluation, synthesis, evidence integration, and appropriate citation practices.
- Assess students' academic needs and coordinate appropriate support, including tutoring, in-class initiatives, workshops, review sessions, and other academic support services.
- Data, Assessment, and Continuous Improvement
- Use data and assessment results to evaluate academic support impact, inform strategy, develop staff resources, and improve student persistence.
- Integrate academic support best practices with department-specific insight and campus-wide student needs to strengthen learning support services.
- Stay current with curricular, programmatic, and technology advances related to assigned content areas and continue to enhance skills through new technologies and tutoring/coaching methodologies.
- Contribute to the growth of the Wolak Learning Center through the development of new learning support models and continuous improvement of services for students taking campus courses.
- Campus Partnerships, Outreach, and Representation
- Assist with Wolak Learning Center initiatives and outreach, including weekly staff meetings and facilitation of academic support workshops at our early arrival JumpStart program.
- Partner with faculty and campus colleagues to identify recurring writing challenges, develop proactive supports, and coordinate in-class visits connected to specific assignments and coursework.
- Consult with faculty, staff, student support teams, Peer Educators, and other internal and external stakeholders to understand student learning needs and provide just-in-time academic support solutions that promote a positive student experience.
- Represent the Wolak Learning Center at designated department and School meetings, admissions events, campus committees, and other SNHU functions.
- Collaborate with global campus colleagues in similar roles to align skills-based support and provide a seamless academic support experience where appropriate.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional experience delivering academic support services, tutoring, writing instruction, student success programming, or related higher education interventions.
- 1+ years of experience supervising, coaching, training, or developing staff, peer educators, tutors, or student employees.
- Master's degree.
- Experience with learning theories, academic support methodologies, writing center practices, tutoring frameworks, and evidence-based student success strategies.
- Experience in student development theory and the academic, transitional, and developmental factors that influence student persistence, engagement, and achievement among traditional-aged college students.
- Experience implementing student-centered support practices and fostering inclusive learning environments.
- Demonstrated skills in staff supervision, project coordination, workflow management, problem analysis, and data-informed decision-making.
- Experience developing and maintaining instructional materials, process documentation, student support resources, and training content, with the ability to facilitate educational workshops and knowledge-transfer sessions.
- Experience maintaining accurate records, completing tasks, and meet established deadlines.
- Proficiency with higher education technologies and productivity tools, including learning management systems (LMS), student information systems (SIS), Microsoft Office Suite, collaboration platforms, and data tracking/reporting systems.
