About the role

The WSU Tri Cities GEAR UP program is seeking an Academic Specialist at Columbia Middle School in Burbank, WA. The Academic Specialist will mentor and advise students to enhance their academic performance, guide them in college and career exploration, and manage student data.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor and advise students to improve academic performance and develop positive behaviors and non-cognitive skills.
  • Guide students in college and career exploration, organize field trips to college campuses, and collaborate with GEAR UP staff, teachers, counselors, and administrators.
  • Implement instructional tools and methodologies consistent with district interventions to meet GEAR UP grant objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of professional work experience in student services or related fields.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of professional work experience.
  • Professional experience in providing instruction or direct outreach services to students and/or working with parents.
  • Proficiency in using computers and Microsoft Office software.
  • Willingness and ability to travel, work flexible hours, and occasionally supervise students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of school programs, student success, and community involvement.
  • Familiarity with school and district administration operations.
  • Experience in leading and supervising others.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
  • Experience managing, tracking, and reporting program data.
  • Experience in student academic support programs.

Pay

$4,050.92 per month

Schedule

This is a full-time (100% FTE) position with potential for overtime. It is an on-site/in-person position located in Burbank, WA. The position is temporary and ends on March 1, 2027, with renewal dependent on funding.
