Academic Neonatologist

About the role

The Division of Neonatology at the University of Utah School of Medicine seeks an Academic Neonatologist to provide clinical care for neonatology patients across four Level III/IV Newborn Intensive Care Units (University Hospital, Primary Children's Hospital Salt Lake Campus, Primary Children's Miller Campus, and Intermountain Medical Center).

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical care for neonatology patients including shared night call and weekend responsibilities.
• Participate in active clinical programs and supported initiatives such as neonatal/perinatal transfusion medicine, neonatal hematology, clinical trials, ECMO, whole body hypothermia, Neuro NICU, perioperative care, Neo-AI, POCUS, Genetics and Genomics, Neo Pharmacology, Global Health, and neonatal critical care.
• Expect approximately 18 weeks of clinical service time annually.
• Conduct academic work including education, investigation, administration/service, and advocacy.
• Pursue scholarly research including individual or collaborative research, grant development, and written/oral presentations of research, with mentoring support.
• Collaborate on research opportunities within the Division and throughout the medical school and University.
• Teach and supervise neonatology fellows, pediatric residents, and medical students during inpatient service and clinics.
• Participate in weekly Neonatal Grand Rounds didactic presentations.
• Engage in cross-service teaching with other faculty, fellows, and multiple other levels of healthcare providers.

Requirements

Qualified candidates must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Pediatrics and in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine, possess excellent procedural and clinical skills, and have the necessary skills to conduct research/scholarly activities.

Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Current license to practice medicine in the State of Utah.
• Completion of a pediatric residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
• Completion of a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship program accredited by the ACGME.

Skills

• Procedural and clinical skills in neonatology.
• Experience with point of care ultrasound, simulation training and education, telehealth, and clinical research.
• Ability to conduct scholarly research and participate in grant development.
