Academic Interventionist - Literacy (Elementary)

About the Role

The Academic Interventionist (Literacy) provides targeted, strategy-based instruction that facilitates student success through planning, teaching, assessing, and adjusting learning opportunities to meet student needs in alignment with the ACPS Strategic Plan and each school’s VCSIP. This position develops collegial relationships to foster a positive learning environment with students, teachers, and administrators, aiming to improve student achievement. The role involves participating in division-level professional development, learning and implementing research-based pedagogical strategies, and supporting division initiatives.

This is a 10-month, 195-day licensed position reporting to the School Principal, located at William Ramsay Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field (Master’s Degree in Education or a similar field preferred).
• Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching Collegiate or Postgraduate License with an endorsement in Elementary Education or a Middle School-related area.
• Minimum of 3 years of successful teaching experience.
• Knowledge of effective instructional practices for diverse learners, including English Learners, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged students.
• Commitment to implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) or similar systems of student support.
• Experience administering diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments to target specific skills and concepts.
• Leadership, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with others.
• Experience with research-proven interventions focused on individual student needs.
• Experience with progress monitoring, data analysis, and documentation of student progress to inform instruction.
• Ability to reflect on instruction and student progress to plan instructional adjustments.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain collegial working relationships with all stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Plan

• Reviews and evaluates student achievement information to place students in appropriate academic intervention and support services.
• Participates in division and school site-based professional development related to content.
• Attends required meetings and training outside of the designated schedule.
• Serves on the building-level MTSS team and participates in MTSS meetings and data analysis meetings.
• Collaborates with teachers to identify students’ strengths and challenges and matches these with appropriate strategies and resources.
• Designs interventions and writes lesson plans aligned with state academic standards, division curriculum, and areas of focus.

Teach

• Utilizes instructional strategies and research-based intervention curriculum resources to meet the learning needs of identified students for Tier II and Tier III.
• Facilitates effective instruction that meets individual needs of diverse learners by consulting with staff on individualized instruction, managing group behavior, monitoring student progress, evaluating group data, and adjusting intervention and instructional strategies.
• Teaches groups as scheduled and implements approved intervention programs according to program guidelines.
• Ensures content is aligned with ACPS expectations and Tier I instruction.

Assess

• Progress monitors using assessment tools for students identified as needing Tier II or Tier III interventions.
• Analyzes and interprets assessment data to adjust future instruction.
• Collects and maintains current data related to student support in accordance with school or division policies.

Adjust

• Consults frequently with school leaders and classroom teachers on revised instructional planning based on progress monitoring data to meet individual student needs.
• Reflects on systematic and valid data to measure the effectiveness of instructional delivery and evaluate its impact on student achievement.

Pay

Step placement and salary for this position are determined by the ACPS Teachers and Other Licensed Staff Salary Scale.

• Public Health Compliance – Must follow safety and health protocols.
