DIVISION: Academics GRADE: 5 DEPARTMENT: Office of Teaching & Learning WORK DAYS: 190 REPORTS TO: Building Principal FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt JOB CLASS: 4355 GROUP: Classified Position Summary The role of an Academic Interventionist involves supporting the instructional program in assigned classrooms. This includes working with individual students or small groups and assisting teachers and staff with data collection and record-keeping tasks. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION: High school diploma or GED equivalentAssociate’s degree with at least two (2) years’ study (60 credit hours) or Highly Qualified designation by passing the GACE paraprofessional assessment preferredEligible for Georgia Paraprofessional license as required from the Professional Standards CommissionAt least 21 years’ of age (individuals who have a minimum credit hours and hold an Associate’s Degree or higher teaching credential do not have to meet the age requirement) CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Maintains all licenses and certificationsCriminal Justice FingerprintBackground Clearance WORK EXPERIENCE: Previous experience working with children Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Skills-based Competencies Required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records. Knowledge-based Competencies Required to perform basic math; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; stages of child development and learning styles; age appropriate activities; classroom instructional media and technology; keyboarding. Ability-based Competencies Required to schedule activities; collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize specific, job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions. Essential Duties Adapts classroom activities and materials to support student work, reinforcing classroom objectives under the direction of the supervising teacher.Assists students individually or in small groups with lesson assignments, writing assistance, and computer learning programs to reinforce learning concepts and help achieve academic goals.Attends meetings (staff, in-service, etc.) to acquire and convey job-related information.Communicate with teachers regarding student behavioral, academic, and attendance issues to assist in evaluating progress and implementing interventions.Implements instructional activities (reading assignments, computer work, etc.) under teacher supervision to reinforce learning concepts.Maintains the classroom environment (equipment, work area, files, etc.) to ensure instructional tools are available, a safe learning environment is provided, and mandated requirements are met.Monitors students in various settings (classroom, computer lab, etc.) to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.Provide intervention strategies (scripted instruction, digital programs, etc.) to help students overcome learning challenges and achieve academic success.Reports student incidents and suspected child-related issues (accidents, altercations, abuse, etc.) to ensure safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.Responds to emergency situations (injuries, altercations, etc.) to address safety concerns and direct issues to the appropriate personnel for resolution.Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
