Academic Functional Neurosurgeon (NTT)

About the role

The University of Missouri Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a neurosurgeon specializing in Functional Neurosurgery. The appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

Responsibilities

• Focus in deep brain stimulation for patients with movement disorders, epilepsy, and facial pain.
• Provide general neurosurgery coverage.
• Participate in general and pediatric neurosurgery on-call coverage.
• Contribute to resident selection and evaluation.
• Supervise residents and fellows in the operating room and bedside settings.
• Develop a psychiatric surgery program and treat cancer pain, including cordotomy and myelotomy procedures.
• Evaluate and manage surgical patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, epilepsy, trigeminal neuralgia, chronic pain syndromes, and other functional disorders.
• Involvement in clinically relevant research and scholarship.
• Collaborate with neurology, neuropsychology, psychiatry, and rehabilitation teams in a multidisciplinary care model.
• Support a high-volume subspecialty practice focused on movement disorders surgery, epilepsy surgery, and other functional procedures at a level four epilepsy center.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Board-certified/Board-eligible in Neurosurgery. License to practice medicine in the Missouri prior to start date.

• Experience in Functional Neurosurgery.

Skills

Possess a strong research program, particularly in neural engineering.
