Responsibilities

  • Preparation of a written statement outlining the educational goals of the program with respect to knowledge, skills and other attributes of residents at each level of training and for each major rotation or other program assignment.
  • Selecting residents for appointment to the program in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Selecting, supervising and evaluating the School of Medicine program faculty and other teaching faculty at the participating institutions.
  • Supervising residents through explicit written descriptions of supervisory lines of responsibility for the care of patients, which are communicated to all members of the program staff.
  • Residents are provided with prompt, reliable systems for communication and interaction with supervisory physicians.
  • Regular and formal evaluation of residents knowledge, skills and overall performance based on the competency standards.
  • Provision of a written final evaluation for each resident who completes the program, including: review of performance throughout residency and professional ability to practice competently and independently.
  • Making sure to monitor resident stress, including mental or emotional conditions inhibiting performance and/or learning; and drug-/or alcohol-related dysfunction, and referal to counseling as appropriate.
  • Trends resident stress and modifies environment as is appropriate.
  • Preparing an accurate statistical and narrative description of the program as requested by the Residency Review Committee (RRC) or AOA.
  • Notifying the accrediting organization (ACGME/AOA) regarding major programmatic changes and obtaining approval.
  • Providing direction and assistance to residents in developing research projects and involvement in quality improvement activities.
  • Supervising clinical medical director in administration of clinic (as applicable).
  • Developing and implementing the program and clinic budget.
  • Being available to work on weekends and evenings to complete time sensitive projects.
  • Acquiring knowledge for new technology and policy/procedure revisions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience at a teaching institution with administrative abilities demonstrated for MD; 3 years of experience for DO.
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Current Board Certification.
  • State of Michigan Licensure in the area of specialty.
  • Appointment in good standing at Bronson Hospital.
