Position Summary

The Academic Advisor advises undergraduate students served by Center for Academic Advising in the College (CAAC) at UCLA regarding academic requirements and options. CAAC is part of the Division of Undergraduate Education within the UCLA College and provides academic advising and related programs and services to approximately 21,000 undergraduates.

Major Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development, administration and evaluation of all programs under the jurisdiction of CAAC and College Academic Counseling
  • Participate in outreach activities
  • Evaluate student petitions and determine decisions

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills and experience to counsel and advise students effectively with professional, academic and/or personal questions and concerns
  • Detail knowledge of University and College degree requirements, academic policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, along with campus and community resources that support student success (Preferred)
  • Independent management of multiple projects and responsibilities, establishing priorities based on organizational needs and deadlines, and following through on assignments with minimal supervision
  • Problem solving and generating alternatives in order to improve operational processes
  • Built cooperative partnerships and communicate diplomatically and effectively with colleagues and representatives across academic units and institutions
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to prepare, analyze, and present reports, correspondence, proposals, and statistical data that are accurate, well-organized, concise, and tailored to diverse audiences
  • Standard office applications (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and the Internet
  • Represent CAAC to the campus and community, in advocating for, and in serving as a resource regarding assigned programs
  • Maintain regular schedule and on-time attendance. Be able to work evenings and weekends as needed

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor's Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training

Special Conditions for Employment

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
  • CANRA: The position is designated as a mandatory reporter under CANRA. The employee must sign the "Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse."
