About the role
The position serves as a departmental academic and HR personnel analyst for the Departments of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. It provides comprehensive personnel support to the chair, faculty, and CAO. Responsibilities include consultation, advice, and planning in support of business processes, policies, and practices; research, analysis, and guidance related to personnel matters; coordination of personnel appointments; and maintenance of confidentiality and integrity.
Responsibilities
- Academic Personnel (60%) - Interpret policies, manage merit and promotion processes, recruit, select, and retain staff and academic positions, classify and compensate, and handle employee and labor relations.
- Human Resources/Payroll (15%) - Maintain payroll and general accounting calculations, ensure compliance with AP practices, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Recruitment (5%) - Coordinate recruitment efforts for various academic and non-academic positions.
- Visa Management (5%) - Manage visa applications and compliance.
- General Administration (5%) - Perform miscellaneous administrative tasks as assigned.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%) - Additional responsibilities as directed.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/ training with AP practices, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Experience in academic personnel functions, including policy interpretation, merit and promotion, recruitment, selection, and retention.
- Experience in coordinating appointments of senate and non-senate academics.
- Discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.
- Knowledge of payroll matters and ability to perform payroll and general accounting calculations.
- Critical thinking and applied problem-solving skills.
- Interpersonal skills and effective communication.
- Correct spelling, grammar, and excellent proofreading skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience/training with AP practices, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Experience performing the full range of academic personnel functions in a higher education setting.
- Experience in coordinating appointments of senate and non-senate academics.
- Experience maintaining a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.
- Knowledge of payroll matters and demonstrated experience/ability to use mathematical skills to perform payroll and general accounting calculations.
- Critical thinking and applied problem-solving skills to research and analyze complex policy and/or problems related to academic personnel in an objective manner.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students, and others.
- Correct spelling, grammar, and excellent proofreading skills.
