Academic Advisor - Upward Bound (Part-Time, Grant Funded)

About the role

This part-time, grant-funded position supports Sinclair College’s Upward Bound Program by advising high school students in the Dayton Public School District on college preparation, academic success planning, financial literacy, and cultural enrichment. The Academic Advisor implements services and activities aligned with the U.S. Department of Education grant requirements and assists with program operations, recruitment, and data reporting.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and monitor tutoring, supplemental instruction, and individualized academic plans for Upward Bound participants
• Develop and deliver college readiness curriculum, including financial literacy and service-learning projects
• Administer testing instruments and surveys; analyze results for academic planning and annual performance reporting
• Plan and lead cultural exposure trips and college visitations for students
• Serve as liaison between Upward Bound and target high schools, maintaining ongoing relationships with educators and stakeholders
• Recruit program participants and guide students through application, registration, enrollment, and retention processes
• Assist the Project Director with grant compliance, including the Annual Performance Report
• Provide support for program activities sponsored by the Office of Student Enrichment Programs as needed

Requirements

• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, or a related field; master’s degree preferred
• At least 1 year of experience serving at-risk populations
• Experience implementing high school academic curriculum aligned with state standards and college readiness
• Strong organizational, prioritization, and deadline management skills
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities
• Attention to detail and follow-through on assignments
• Ability to sit, stand, and/or walk for extended periods while chaperoning student events
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Willingness to work long hours during overnight travel and student trips; use personal vehicle for daily travel to target schools and program-related activities

The hourly pay rate for this position is $25.91 with a maximum of 28 hours per week. This position is contingent upon grant funding.
