About the role

The Indiana University (IU) School of Social Work (IUSSW) is a university-wide system school with accredited MSW and BSW programs. Located in Indianapolis at Indiana University Indianapolis (IUI) and on 7 IU campuses, IUSSW enrolls approximately 1,800 students across PhD, MSW, and BSW programs.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Provides academic and developmental advising for undergraduate and/or graduate students.
• Develops and implements strategies and interventions to enhance student performance, retention, and graduation rates.
• Teaches students to explore their intellectual interests, assess their abilities, and tailor their academic programs to their career goals.
• Affords students guidance on choosing a major and potential career paths, assessing interests, values, and academic skills, and understanding these in relation to future options.
• Empowers students to make informed decisions about academic choices and career directions, and assists them in navigating university systems and policies.
• Assists students in making informed decisions about a choice of major and potential career or graduate school direction.
• Tracks and monitors students' academic progress, reviews and maintains confidential student records, and communicates this information to students and academic offices.
• Represents the advising function as a presenter at campus meetings and recruiting functions.
• Aids in developing written advising materials for student events.
• Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit or campus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and provides guidance to other academic advisors.

General Responsibilities

• Provides academic counseling for students pursuing or considering majors, minors, or certificates.
• Guides students in planning their course of study in concert with the departments' curricular requirements.
• Explains curriculum requirements and school and campus policies.
• Maintains confidentiality and documents advising discussions.
• Tracks and monitors students' academic progress.
• Communicates information to students and academic offices as needed.
• Represents the advising function as a presenter at campus meetings and recruiting functions.
• Aids in developing written advising materials for student events.
• Researches, recommends, or creates best practices for unit or campus initiatives, projects, processes, or programs and provides guidance to other academic advisors.

Education and Experience

• Required: Master's degree in a related field.
• Required: 2 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or a related field.
• PREFERRED: 3 years in student affairs, teaching, academic advising, or a related field.
• Experience in a student-focused, higher education environment is highly desired.

Pay

$52,000.00 - 54,000.00 per year

Schedule

This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work).
