Primary Responsibilities

  • Formulate and execute ongoing communication plans to advisees.
  • Track student progress using various software platforms and serve as liaison to academic departments/colleges.
  • Collaborate as a wrap-around support team for each individual student.
  • Guide students in developing and maintaining a plan of study that meets degree requirements and fits their timetable for graduation.
  • Maintain a consistent pattern of contact to encourage a trusting relationship through multiple channels of communication.
  • Use analytical data to identify students who might be “at risk” for continued academic success and progress to degree to initiate interactions and develop success strategies to address those challenges.
  • Assess when a situation calls for professional intervention or referral.
  • Create and maintain relationships with constituents across the institution.
  • Effectively utilize myBLUEprint, Banner, goPFW, Slate, Navigate, and any other associated technology.
  • Serve as liaison to assigned academic departments/units.
  • Attend departmental meetings as desired by academic unit.
  • Serve as local expert in academic areas assigned to assure that students understand and engage in successful matriculation through their major area of study.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • One year academic advising or related experience
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong data and computer skills
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Collection of advising data, as well as analysis and application of the same
  • Excellent planning, problem-solving, organizational, project management and customer support skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to lead collaborative groups of faculty, staff, and students
  • Knowledge of theories and best practices as they apply to academic advising in a university setting
  • Knowledge of student informational systems (i.e. Banner, Degree Works, Navigate)
  • Basic skills in Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of programs and majors at Purdue Fort Wayne

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree
  • 2-5 years of academic advising or related experience
  • Experience in teaching P-12
  • Understanding of student development theory
  • Familiarity with typical student information systems and university software like Banner, Degree Works, Brightspace, and Qualtrics

Pay

$49,236.72 annually
