About the role
The Academic Advisor, Marquette Business is responsible for providing academic advising to students served by the College and maintaining appropriate notes. This role acts as a resource to students with questions regarding careers, majors, and campus resources, and provides guidance to students requiring specialized feedback.
Responsibilities
- Provide academic advising to assigned advisees (pre-professional and undergraduate) as well as other students who seek the services of the Advising Center.
- Maintain appropriate advising notes in the appropriate portal.
- Aid students in exploring careers and majors by providing curriculum information and graduation requirements.
- Connect students with various campus resources and assist with academic and personal concerns.
- Avoid scheduling conflicts and communicate with students about upcoming deadlines.
- Represent the University at Marquette events, including SPARK (new student orientation).
- Review and update advising handouts used throughout the year, and assist with the recruitment, onboarding, and training of the advising staff.
- Work closely with the Student Success Coordinator in troubleshooting student issues.
- Participate in college recruiting events to provide information on college majors and answer prospective student questions.
- Upon request, write letters of recommendation for students and alumni.
Requirements
- Requires a Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline.
- Minimum of three years of related experience.
- Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Discern student needs, excellent public speaking skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer competency, to include proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn systems required within the higher ed space.
- Keep abreast of continuing changes in academic policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate attention to detail, professional attitude, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Flexibility to work extended and evening/weekend hours is required.
Qualifications
- Preferred: Experience in academic advising and counseling in a post-secondary institution.
- Familiarity with academic support programs.
