Academic Advisor - Bilingual

Empire State University seeks an experienced and dedicated bilingual (Spanish speaking) Academic Advisor to provide online academic advising services to undergraduate students, most of whom are transfer students. The successful candidate will develop expertise across various advising activities to support students in advancing their academic, professional, and personal goals.

About the role

As part of a student-centered advising team, you will:

• Manage an active caseload of advisees, participating in proactive outreach and advisement throughout their time at the university.
• Take an active role in first enrollment advising, with particular focus on students in Spanish-speaking academic program(s).
• Develop and maintain mastery of the university's academic program requirements, policies, and procedures.
• Work closely with students in associate and/or bachelor's degree programs to identify options that support their academic, professional, and intellectual goals.
• Guide students through identifying university-level prior learning eligible for academic credit, following established procedures.
• Teach sections of the university's Educational Planning course to assigned advisees/mentees where applicable.
• Promote and engage in best practices, including data-driven improvements.
• Collaborate with various university offices to advance holistic student support initiatives.
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings for department updates, team building, professional development, governance, and university development.
• Provide proactive support and advisement for military-affiliated undergraduate students.

Requirements

• Master's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university.
• Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in higher education with a role specific to academic advisement or student development.
• Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish, with the ability to effectively communicate and support students in a higher education context in Spanish.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work within a collaborative academic environment with faculty and staff from multiple departments.
• Desire and skills to engage with undergraduate learners in online settings, including both synchronous and asynchronous communication modes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of adult learning, learning technologies, and online pedagogies.
• Understanding of the Military lifestyle or previous experience working with military-affiliated students.
• Experience working in an online environment.
• Experience with computer databases and web-based communications platforms (e.g., Banner, CRM).
• Previous college teaching experience, preferably in disciplines offered in a School of Business, Social and Behavioral Sciences, or Arts and Sciences.
• Prior knowledge of and experience working with bilingual and emergent bilingual learners, particularly in online settings.
• Prior experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Special Information

• Occasional travel, as well as evening and weekend hours, may be required to fulfill departmental, divisional, and university-wide commitments.
• The successful candidate must complete and pass an online Spanish language proficiency test prior to an official offer of employment.
• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis; VISA sponsorship is not available.

Pay

$57,500–60,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
