Job Summary
Columbus State Community College is seeking an Academic Advisor to work on a second shift and/or split schedule position. The Advisor will serve as the primary point of contact from enrollment to completion, providing comprehensive support that includes academic, career, and personal development.
Responsibilities
- Develops strong relationships with individual students and provides sustained, strategic, integrated, proactive, and personalized support.
- Communicates with students through announcements, weekly updates, and pop-up visits to enhance their holistic student experience.
- Coaches students on academic, career, and financial planning to promote their success.
- Evaluates transfer credit and transfer opportunities, offering support in person, by phone, via email, or virtually.
- Coordinates with Financial Aid Advisors, Student Services staff, and community partners to assist students facing academic difficulties.
- Facilitates curriculum and resource updates, assisting prospective students in exploring majors within the designated Pathway, and managing "deep dive" content.
- Provides high-level academic and career coaching to Pathways students, offering individual support, group advising, and coaching on topics like goal setting, time management, and study skills.
- Plans and participates in student-centered programming, contributing to the successful orientation of pathways students, and engaging in summer activities for returning students.
- Maintains confidentiality of student files and other sensitive information, reviews and interprets advising and related data, and prepares weekly advising reports.
- Fosters a culture of respect and inclusion, attending all required department meetings and training, and participating in other student success initiatives or projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in education, counseling, human services, or a related field.
- One (1) year of teaching, tutoring, and/or academic support experience in a college environment.
