The ABC Commission, a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety (NC DPS), offers a legal internship for college students or recent graduates (within 6 months) interested in gaining hands-on experience in the legal field and public service.

About the role

This internship is designed to provide legal support services, including working alongside experienced professionals in an administrative law environment. Most of the work is confidential.

Responsibilities

• Legal office support, including agenda meeting preparation
• Legal research and drafting legal documents under supervision
• Assisting with case preparation and reviewing files
• Attending court proceedings and organizing evidence
• Possible public interaction
• Exposure to law enforcement, office duties, and courtroom procedures

Requirements

• Currently enrolled college student or recent graduate (within 6 months)
• Must submit a copy of current college transcripts (official or unofficial) to verify eligibility
• Must provide a letter of recommendation from a professional reference or academic advisor/professor before hiring

Schedule

Part-time (up to 30 hours per week), Monday–Thursday. Internship runs from August 24, 2026, through October 23, 2026.

This position qualifies for teleworking on a part-time basis as part of the State Telework Program.

Pay

$15.00 per hour.
