A-Repairman Recovery Unit, Bus Maintenance
About the role
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team. This position involves vehicle recovery work for the MTA, including diagnosing and repairing MTA equipment and towing disabled vehicles.
Responsibilities
- On-location diagnosis and repair of MTA equipment that has been determined by radio dispatch as immobile while in revenue service.
- Operation of special towing equipment and responding to disabled vehicles.
- Removing disabled vehicles from obstructing traffic flow and towing them to designated MTA properties or other facilities.
- Resuming regular traffic flow when necessary, under the direction of police supervision.
- Supervision from a designated official; considered an Essential Employee.
Requirements
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in work involving heavy vehicle diagnosis, maintenance, and towing.
- Proficiency in using equipment and programs to diagnose and repair diesel engines such as Cummins, Detroit, and Allison transmissions.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing Vansco systems and other systems related to MTA equipment and vehicles.
Qualifications
- Current valid Class “A” Learner's Permit with P Endorsement.
- Valid DOT Medical Certification at the time of hire / transfer.
- Proof of Wreckmaster or OEM tow truck training, or similar training.
Skills
Employees in this position are expected to be proficient in the use of equipment and programs to diagnose and repair diesel engines, Vansco systems, and other systems related to MTA equipment and vehicles.
Benefits
Employees in this position receive supervision from a designated official and are considered Essential Employees. They may be required to lift or carry heavy objects or equipment weighing over fifty pounds regularly. The current work schedule varies on a 24-hour shift.
