About the role

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join the MTA team. The A-Repairman-Carpenter/Mason will be responsible for various tasks including renovations, corrective repairs, constructing structures, reading blueprints, understanding and carrying out instructions, and adhering to structural and building codes.

Responsibilities

  • Work on renovations, corrective repairs, and constructing all types of wood, metal, or composite structures.
  • Lay brick, block, and concrete work of all kinds.
  • Lay tile and carpet floors, hang sheet rock, spackle, finish, paint, repair doors, and repair glass.
  • Perform other duties as required by management in the Facilities Department.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate recognized by the State of Maryland.
  • Five (5) years of experience in the Masonry and Carpentry field.
  • Satisfactory completion of a formal vocational or technical trade school in the Carpentry/Masonry program may be substituted for up to 5 years of experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations for the required education and experience.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: Five (5) years of experience in Masonry and Carpentry.

Skills

Must be able to read blueprints, understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions, and be familiar with structural and building codes.

Benefits

Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and will be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status. The MTA will conduct an interview to all qualified applicants to fill current and future vacancies.

Pay

The pay for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The current work schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00am-3:30pm with Saturday & Sunday off.

Special Requirements

  • Employee will be required and maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call back requirements.
  • Employee may be required to work shifts, evenings, some holidays, and weekends.
  • Employee may be exposed to a variety of hazards, requiring the wearing of protective clothing and the use of appropriate safety and Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Employees in this position are considered "Essential Employees" and will be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.

Environmental Conditions

The employee may travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area, in all types of weather conditions, and at all times of the day or night. Employee may be exposed to a variety of hazards including, but not limited to, toxic materials and fumes, asbestos, flammable or combustible agents; any of which may require the use of personal safety equipment such as hard hats, hearing protection, protective eyewear/footwear, and respirators.
