About the role
The M1 Abrams Tank is the backbone of the armored forces. This role involves supervising and performing maintenance on these tanks.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions
- Perform organizational maintenance and on-board direct support tasks on the suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, auxiliary power units, fire extinguisher/suppression systems, and gas particulate systems
- Perform organizational maintenance on vehicular mounted armament, gun turret drive system, and fire control system
Requirements
- Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
- Must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
- Must be between the ages of 17 and 35
- Must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
- Must meet citizenship requirements (see NATIONALGUARD.com for details)

Helpful Skills:
- Strong attention to detail
- Interest in working with diesel and turbine engines
Skills
- Electronic and mechanical principles and concepts
- Use of electronic, electrical, and mechanical test equipment
- Use of schematics, drawings, and wiring diagrams

Pay
Actual MOS assignment may depend on MOS availability. Candidates will earn between $200 and $250 per drill weekend, subject to change.
Schedule
Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Job training for an M1 Abrams Tank Systems Maintainer requires 10 weeks of Basic Training and 24 weeks of Advanced Individual Training.
