911 PUBLIC SAFETY TELECOMMUNICATOR

About the role

The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator to handle incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch appropriate agencies and personnel, and coordinate rescue efforts.

Responsibilities

• Receive calls from the public for emergency services
• Determine which response agency should be responsible for responding to the call for assistance and dispatch appropriate units
• Provide emergency assistance to callers until responding emergency units arrive
• Cookordinate rescue efforts with various external agencies including DNR, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Marine Search and Rescue, Shore Beach Services, and the USCG
• Respond to and direct non-emergency calls from the public
• Maintain communication with field units through monitoring primary and secondary radio channels

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, 7th Ed. Certification within one (1) year of employment
• American Heart Association CPR Certification within three (3) months of employment
• Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification within one (1) year of employment
• Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification within one (1) year of employment
