About the role
The Town of Hilton Head Island is seeking a 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator to handle incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch appropriate agencies and personnel, and coordinate rescue efforts.
Responsibilities
- Receive calls from the public for emergency services
- Determine which response agency should be responsible for responding to the call for assistance and dispatch appropriate units
- Provide emergency assistance to callers until responding emergency units arrive
- Cookordinate rescue efforts with various external agencies including DNR, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, Marine Search and Rescue, Shore Beach Services, and the USCG
- Respond to and direct non-emergency calls from the public
- Maintain communication with field units through monitoring primary and secondary radio channels
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1, 7th Ed. Certification within one (1) year of employment
- American Heart Association CPR Certification within three (3) months of employment
- Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification within one (1) year of employment
- Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification within one (1) year of employment
