8TH GRADE ALGEBRA TEACHER

At Bronx Arts, we see teaching as an art form. We are seeking a dynamic 8th Grade Algebra Teacher who can make mathematics rigorous, accessible, and meaningful for every student. Our 8th graders take the Algebra I Regents, so we are looking for an educator with strong mathematical content knowledge who can build conceptual understanding, strengthen problem-solving skills, and prepare students to confidently demonstrate mastery. This is a role for an educator who loves math, believes deeply in student potential, and refuses to accept the idea that some kids simply “aren’t math people.” We want someone who can help students see themselves as mathematicians. Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver rigorous, standards-aligned 8th Grade Algebra I instruction
• Prepare students for success on the NYS Algebra I Regents
• Use student data consistently to identify gaps, adjust instruction, and accelerate learning
• Build students’ conceptual understanding, mathematical reasoning, fluency, and problem-solving skills
• Differentiate instruction and provide targeted support for students with varying learning needs, including MLLs and students with IEPs
• Submit weekly lesson overviews and maintain strong, thoughtful lesson plans
• Build a structured, joyful, high-expectations classroom culture
• Maintain a beautiful, organized classroom that celebrates mathematics and showcases student thinking and learning
• Communicate regularly with students and families about progress
• Collaborate with grade-level and instructional teams to analyze data, plan interventions, and strengthen practice
• Participate fully in coaching, professional development, and the life of the Bronx Arts community

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred
• NYS Teaching Certification, or certification in progress, in a relevant mathematics area
• Middle school and/or Algebra I teaching experience preferred
• Experience preparing students for the Algebra I Regents is strongly preferred
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus
