About the role

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for maintaining the Distribution Center daily using preventive and corrective measures to ensure the safety of the facility. This role typically reports to the Manager/Supervisor Maintenance or Sr. Mgr. Safety and Maintenance and is based in either our Braselton or Stockbridge, GA Distribution Center.

Responsibilities

75%: Daily Operations

• Operate automated battery changer to replace batteries in powered industrial lifts including, but not limited to Order Pickers, Reach Lifts, Electric Pallet Jacks, Pacers, Clamp Lifts, Fork Lifts.
• Check for adequate water in batteries, and place on charge.
• Check water levels on assigned schedule and add water as needed.
• Visually inspect batteries, tag, and report repairs that are needed.
• Document tasks performed on a daily basis.
• Communicate verbally and through written communication with peers, departments, and all levels of management.
• Ensure all work, including work performed by subcontractors, is done in accordance with OSHA regulations and Carter’s safety rules.
• Maintain good housekeeping and work well with management, peers, and subordinate employees to maximize productivity while minimizing employee conflict.
• Observe housekeeping, safety, and C-TPAT compliance in assigned area of responsibility; stay within compliance of company policies regarding safety.

25%: Support Functions

• Perform preventative, corrective, and breakdown maintenance on conveyors and other material handling equipment.
• Assist with planning and coordinating the maintenance and repair of conveyors, machines, and equipment.
• Support the Coordinator/Supervisor in all duties as assigned, including all operational areas of the Distribution Center.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

Must Have:

• Ability to pass equipment and safety certification (required to operate equipment for most of your shift).
• Experience using routine industrial hand tools.
• Basic electrical knowledge.
• Team player willing to perform various job duties to support the department and facility objectives and key performance indicators.
• Customer-service orientation willing to exceed expectations of customers.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repetitively, scan with RF equipment, bend, twist, and be on your feet for shifts up to 12 hours long.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with supervisors, managers, and peers.
• Flexibility to work overtime and comply with blackout periods (no vacation or personal time allowed) during peak periods.
• A valid state-issued driver’s license and a good driving record.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED (preferred, not required).
• Formal technical school or college degree (preferred).
• 0-2 years of maintenance experience.
