About the role

The role involves delivering quality care to patients through teamwork, ensuring patient safety, and providing support for pain management and other interventions. The incumbent is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care, as well as formulating and documenting discharge plans.

Responsibilities

• Executes appropriate policies and procedures to assure patient safety.
• Supports pain management and pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures.
• Affords appropriate support for patient/family in identifying individualized comfort measures.
• Mobilizes resources in complex cases to maximize patients' control and participation over their recovery.
• Provides information and interpretation of the patient's condition and offers coping mechanisms.
• Assesses patient's need for information and utilizes appropriate language and approach.
• Foresees potential age-specific healthcare needs and anticipates patient needs.
• Ensures handoff communication and includes a report on situations likely to develop and problems awaiting patient.
• Identifies and addresses issues related to patient education for medication management.
• Plans and provides unique and individualized comfort measures while using evidence-based practice.
• Collaborates with case managers and healthcare providers to promote appropriate resolutions.
• Develops and adjusts staffing patterns as needed.
• Attends educational sessions to improve departmental needs.
• Participates in unit and hospital-based committees.
• Engages in performance improvement activities.
• Prepares for Joint Commission readiness.
• Achieves successful Patient Satisfaction scores and is aware of HCAAPS measurements.
• Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

Education: Associate's degree or graduate from an accredited school of nursing.

Experience: None preferred, but previous nursing experience is beneficial.

Other Credentials: AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider, Registered Nurse - NJ.

Training: Requires TNCC (or must obtain within 1 year of hire) and 8 hours of Trauma-related CNE contact hours if assigned to certain units.

Knowledge and Skills: Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, high interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication, quick adjustment to change, and considerable knowledge of nursing principles.

Special Training: Knowledge of nursing skills, hospital practices, procedures, and standards.

Occasional physical demands include sitting, continuous physical demands include standing, carrying objects, and occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Sensory requirements include very accurate vision, near vision, far vision, color discrimination, accurate depth perception, and accurate hearing.
