About the Role
Under the direction of the school principal, you will support the Diocese of Nashville in its mission to evangelize and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. The accepted candidate will teach in a 4th grade elementary classroom for the 2026-27 school year, fostering the spiritual, intellectual, social, and physical development of children.
Responsibilities
- Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic Mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church; may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Church.
- Gives evidence of lived Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of personal faith journey; strives to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Helps build the school’s faith community by participating in and planning school religious and service activities.
- Prepares for all elements of classroom instruction and interactions with students and colleagues with intentionality.
- Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lessons designed to implement stated goals and objectives, incorporating school and diocesan curriculum objectives.
- Demonstrates competence in teaching by maintaining current, thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter, communicating effectively with students, and organizing classroom learning to maximize student time on tasks.
- Cooperates with the principal in developing instructional programs that meet student needs.
- Develops and uses effective methods of evaluation directly related to curriculum objectives and concepts taught; consistently evaluates student progress.
- Establishes a consistent disciplinary approach promoting self-direction and positive self-image; sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively.
- Maintains a functional and pleasant learning environment.
- Cooperates with school and diocesan administration; works effectively with staff to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
- Demonstrates effective communication with parents concerning student progress.
- Enforces diocesan and school policies and regulations professionally at all times.
- Maintains confidentiality, displays sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including responsibility for extra-curricular and co-curricular activities.
Requirements
- Must have an active Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in Elementary K-5 or be enrolled in an approved job-embedded educator preparation program.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field.
- 2-5 years of classroom experience preferred.
