4230 - Solar - Foreman

Overland Contracting Inc is seeking a Solar Foreman to direct and supervise solar photovoltaic construction, including electrical and civil components, in accordance with plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards.

About the Role

Plan and coordinate the efforts of craft workers, ensuring work is completed safely, correctly, and efficiently. Lead safety initiatives, crew scheduling, and on-the-job training while maintaining compliance with project plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Perform principal duties and accountabilities of craft workers under supervision.
• Conduct toolbox meetings, implement safety measures, and communicate work scope, plans, and schedules to crews.
• Ensure daily STA (Safety Task Assignment) is completed prior to work start.
• Lead and support all safety-related processes, aiming for zero injuries.
• Exercise stop-work authority for safety concerns and monitor crews for heat-related injuries.
• Understand scheduling, material control, and unit man-hour performance reporting for crews.
• Create and execute a one-week schedule and set crew goals based on project unit rates.
• Complete accurate timecards with correct hours and phase coding daily.
• Report all accidents and near misses; participate in investigations as needed.
• Hold crews accountable for safe working behaviors and conditions.
• Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning.
• Identify and mitigate safety hazards; ensure crew participation in safety planning.
• Use effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) with whole numbers and fractions.
• Address employee suggestions, complaints, and safety concerns; consult with supervisor or HR as needed.
• Provide on-the-job training to crew members.
• Understand site maps and identify work areas.
• Perform task planning to safely execute assigned work.
• Ensure adequate supply of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Develop a thorough understanding of project plans, specifications, and schedule.
• Participate in quantity report collection and ensure accuracy.
• Understand and execute job work packages for scheduled tasks.
• Inspect subordinate work for compliance with plans, specifications, and industry standards.
• Identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost-saving measures; take corrective actions.
• Ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and inspected daily.
• Complete performance reviews of craft workers according to CPA guidelines.

Requirements

• Working experience as a Solar Technician with strong knowledge of solar photovoltaic construction, including assembly, installation, or maintenance of ground or roof-mounted PV systems.
• Ability to set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality, and productivity.
• Understanding and ability to follow directions.
• Possession of all necessary tools (see Solar Installer Tool List).
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screens, and motor vehicle records search.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience as a supervisor.
• One or more of the following certifications:
  • NCCER Solar Photovoltaic Installer
  • NCCER Electrician
  • NCCER Concrete Finishing
  • NCCER Carpenter

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have working experience as a Solar Technician.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 52 pounds.
• Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, and move in confined or cluttered spaces and uneven areas.
• Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with job duties.
• Use hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Repetitive movement.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel frameworks, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and outdoor conditions.
• Extensive walking throughout the shift.
• Wear additional PPE such as Kevlar sleeves.

Work Environment

• Typical construction site environment with cramped workspaces and awkward positions.
• Work in very hot (above 90°F) or very cold (below 32°F) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather (dust, wind, snow, rain).
• Work in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.
• Exposure to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels.
• Work around hazardous equipment and at high places.
• This position is considered safety-sensitive.
