About the role

The 4-H Summer Assistant supports the County 4-H team in delivering high-quality, positive youth development program experiences for existing and new youth audiences. They work under the guidance of the 4-H Educator.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate age-appropriate 4-H events, activities, programs, and camps at the local and area levels.
  • Maintain the safety and supervision of all youth participants.
  • Participate in regional or state events as needed.
  • Serve as a member of the 4-H staff team to support summer 4-H educational programs, camps, contests, and fundraisers.
  • Create news releases and social media content and assist with marketing to increase public awareness and participation.
  • Aid in survey data entry as needed.
  • Collaborate with local staff to plan and run programs, activities, and special events.
  • Aid the Educator to reach new audiences and provide opportunities for all youth within the county.
  • Submit work time and travel reports for reimbursement by required deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain summer program files.
  • Complete end of summer reports of time, contacts, and impact reports.
  • Observe the operations of a Penn State Extension Office to gain insight into youth development careers.

Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • The ability to work independently and plan and teach activities and educational programs.
  • To be a team player who can work with diverse youth and adults.
  • The ability to carry equipment and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation.
  • Preference given to applicants with undergraduate coursework in education, agriculture, the sciences or other related fields.
  • Previous experience with the 4-H program is preferred.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours.

Skills

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle as part of job duties.
